The Gold Coast’s big annual swim on Coolangatta is back for its 10th birthday this 2019, inviting swimmers from all over the country to join in a number of iconic long-distance swims.
Each year the Cooly Classic Ocean Swim takes over Coolangatta as well as surrounding areas Snapper Rocks and Kirra for one whole day, offering an incredible backdrop for impassioned swimmers to take part in a premier ocean swim in one of the most famous surfing locations in the world. With a breathtaking location and a solid reputation built up over ten successful years, the Cooly Classic - which is part of World Series Swims - has become a huge event for ocean swimmers from all over the world, as well as an electrifying spectacle for onlookers and beach-goers alike.
This year, to celebrate its 10th annual event, the Cooly Classic will be introducing a brand new 5.0km marathon distance, which will be the longest course yet. 200 elite swimmers will take on this demanding long-distance swim to and from the North Kirra SLSC, and it’s all set to be a thrilling exhibition for all.
The new Cooly 5.0 will take place in addition to the ever-popular Cooly 3.0 and Cooly Classic, which are the most watched events of the Cooly Classic Ocean Swim. The Cooly Classic is undoubtedly the main highlight, which attracts a sizeable crowd as swimmers embark on a 2.0km course from Snapper Rocks to Kirra Beach, passing Rainbow Bay, Greenmount and Coolangatta along the way. The Cooly 3.0, which is equally exciting, sees swimmers take on an extra kilometre in an attempt to push themselves that much further.
As with each year, the Cooly 1000, which is a short 1.0km swim from Coolangatta to Kirra Beach, will invite casual swimmers and Cooly Classic first-timers to get a feel of the event. Young swimmers from ages 10 to 16 will also be giving it their best in the Junior Giants event - a 1000-metre swim short course that will take place on Coolangatta Beach.
1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be given for each distance, as well as $500 and a trophy for the first-ever winner of the Cooly 5.0!
Join the crowds that will gather on Coolangatta, Snapper Rocks and Kirra for the 2019 Cooly Classic Ocean Swim, which is sure to feature an explosive atmosphere for its 10th annual event.
