This Autumn show your support for melanoma research with the annual Melanoma March, returning once again to the Gold Coast. Taking place at Coolangatta, the Melanoma March is a 4 km walk beginning at The Strand and along the foreshore of Coolangatta Beach. People of all ages and backgrounds are invited to sign up and take part, and it’s the perfect opportunity to show your support and raise awareness for one of Australia’s most threatening diseases. Now in its 4th year, the Melanoma March aims to be even more successful than its previous years.
Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that is affecting more and more people each year. Australia and New Zealand share the highest melanoma rates in the world, with the rate having doubled in the last 20 years. 1 in 14 men and 1 in 24 women in Australia will be diagnosed with melanoma in their lifetime. Melanoma is also the most common cancer amongst young Australians, making up over 20% of all cancer cases. An estimation cites that 2,500 Australians aged 25 to 49 will be diagnosed with melanoma in 2017, with 1,400 of those expected to die from it.
Each year’s Melanoma March is dedicated to raising awareness and showing support. The importance of raising awareness for melanoma can save a life, where if it’s identified at an early stage, just a small course of simple treatment can result in a complete cure.
This year’s Melanoma March invites its participants to wear all-new coloured wristbands. Wear green if you’re battling your own Melanoma struggle, orange if you are remembering a loved one, or yellow if you’re showing support for anyone affected by melanoma.
Melanoma March 2018 will take place on March 4, starting at 7 am. After the march, participants are welcome to join in a celebration at The Strand, involving lots of appetising refreshments, drinks, and live entertainment. Raise awareness and show your support this Autumn at the Melanoma March.
