Named and established after the famous 1984 film The Coolangatta Gold, the Coolangatta Gold is one of the biggest surf lifesaving events in all of Australia, and it’s returning this spring 2018. This huge annual sporting event sees passionate surf lifesavers from all over the country come to the Gold Coast to compete in a challenging surf lifesaving course that totals 41.8 kilometres, featuring skiing, running, swimming, and boarding. This October, make it your year to take part in the Coolangatta Gold or come along to witness all of the action!
The original Coolangatta Gold event is the ultimate challenge for surf lifesavers, and comprises of a 23 kilometre ski, 2.1 kilometre run, 3.5 kilometre swim, 6.1 kilometre board, and a final 7.1 kilometre run to the finish - totalling 41.8 kilometres. It’s one of the biggest sporting events that takes place yearly on the Gold Coast, and the most prestigious surf lifesaving event in Australia.
For those that want to experience the Coolangatta Gold but want a less challenging experience, a shorter course comprised of a 10.5 kilometre ski, 2 kilometre swim, 3 kilometre board, and a final 5.5. kilometre run is a worthy secondary challenge to take up.
Each spring the Coolangatta Gold takes over Coolangatta Beach on the Southern Gold Coast with an incredible atmosphere which is open to enjoy for all ages and backgrounds. Coolangatta Beach itself is one of the most sought-after beaches on the Gold Coast, and its signature event - the Coolangatta Gold - is the perfect way to welcome spring each year.
