5 Huge Events Coming to Coolangatta This Autumn 2020!
If you're craving fun in the sun and excitement on the beach this autumn, save your next holiday for Coolangatta on the Gold Coast, which has a huge lineup of events in store from March to May that's guaranteed to get your heart racing.
12 Towers Ocean Paddle Festival, Gold Coast Corona Open and the 2020 Cooly Classic are a few exciting events that are just around the corner in Coolangatta, set to take over Coolangatta Beach with lots to spectate and an incredible atmosphere to soak up under the sun. Just a stone’s throw from our Kirra Beach accommodation at Kirra Surf, get ready for these five Coolangatta Gold Coast events this autumn 2020:
Sending Australia’s best paddle-boarders on a 15-kilometre course from Snapper Rocks Coolangatta to Burleigh Heads Beach, 12 Towers Ocean Paddle Race is a spectacle in itself, offering multiple vantage points from Coolangatta to Burleigh with a weekend atmosphere that will bring each beach to life.
Participants will pass 12 iconic lifeguard towers from Snapper Rocks to Burleigh, staged over two days across the Southern Gold Coast with short, long and technical courses, expecting up to 300 casual and seasoned SUP athletes from all parts of Australia. For one whole weekend, don’t miss 12 Towers Ocean Paddle Festival 2020 starting March 6.
World Surf League will kick off the new Championship Tour with the 2020 Corona Open, bound for Snapper Rocks Gold Coast with the world’s best surfers arriving for 11 back-to-back days of pro-level surfing at the iconic Superbank.
Minutes from Rainbow Bay and Coolangatta, be at Snapper Rocks for this massive surf-off, comprising male and female championship events with each surfer pushing it to the limit to qualify for the world stage. Join an atmospheric crowd on the beach and watch the action firsthand during this world-class WSL surfing tournament from March 26 to April 5.
Australia’s biggest touring music festival returns to Coolangatta in 2020, following the World Surf League Championship Tour for its third season with a brand new artist lineup that’s nothing less than epic. After dates in Noosa, Newcastle and Manly, The Drop Live will make its way to Queen Elizabeth Park on Coolangatta Beach, armed with live summer vibes from some of the biggest names in indie, alternative and EDM music.
Against a shimmering backdrop of beach and ocean, Queen Elizabeth Park Coolangatta will come alive with one huge stage and a stellar Australian lineup involving Graace, Ball Park Music, The Presents, Boy & Bear, DZ Deathrays, Kita Alexander and many more. It’s Australia’s hottest music artists performing next to Queensland’s most spectacular beach - don’t miss it on March 28.
Seeking a challenge this autumn? Take part in the Cooly Classic - the Gold Coast’s premier ocean swim held annually on Coolangatta Beach. Back this April, the Cooly Classic will follow the success of its 10th anniversary last year with a wide variety of ocean swimming distances for all ages and abilities, complete with a vibrant atmosphere on the beach for those just wanting to kick back and spectate.
All 1000m, 1km, 2km, 3km and 5km courses are returning for the 2020 Cooly Classic with free stretch yoga on the sand and prizes awarded to each 1st, 2nd and 3rd-placer in every category. For fun, competition or simply the perfect excuse to head to the beach, catch this year’s World Series Swims Cooly Classic on April 26.
Don’t fret if you can’t make it to the Cooly Classic - Swim the Gold Coast arrives in May with more ocean swimming action to soak up on Coolangatta Beach. Posing more of a challenge, World Series Swims Swim the Gold Coast boasts a 21.5km course for Australia’s elite, kicking off on Coolangatta Beach and sending competitors past Currumbin, Burleigh Heads and Broadbeach to a finishing line on Surfers Paradise Beach.
There will be individual, pair and team participation for this brand new 2020 marathon swim on the Gold Coast - a challenge that will see the fittest swimming athletes flock to Coolangatta Gold Coast on May 30.
